Hills against sunset

These are the discovery questions I use at the start of every project.

Grab a notebook, a quiet hour, and work through them to see what’s working, what’s not, and where your focus should be.

(If you’d like me to review your answers and send tailored recommendations, you can contact me for the paid review link.)

  1. What you do and why it matters

  • In a few sentences, what do you do - in plain English?

  • Why does your work matter - to you, and to others

  • What’s prompted you to reflect on your brand or marketing right now?

  • What would success look like 90 days from now?

______

  1. Who do you want to reach?

  • Who do you most want to work with or influence?

  • What are they trying to achieve when they come to you?

  • What might make them hesitate or look elsewhere?

  • What do you want them to say about you after working with you?

______

  1. Your place in the landscape

  • What do you do differently or better than others in your space?

  • Which competitors or peers would you align yourself with, and what parts of their approach would you like to replicate, evolve or discard?

  • What’s something you stand for that others in your field often overlook?

  • What’s happening in your market that excites or frustrates you?

______

  1. How you communicate

  • If someone landed on your website or social media channels, what would you hope the'd take away?

  • What words, tone or personality feel most true to your brand?

  • When people interact with your business, how do you want them to feel?

______

Wrap-up reflection

Take a moment to read back your answers.

What patterns stand out? Where do you sound confident, and where do things feel vague or hard to explain?

Those are your clues for what to focus on next.

What to do with your answers

You have three options.

Option 1: Self-guided with AI

Use the ChatGPT prompt below to turn your answers into a draft positioning statement, brand story, and 90-day plan. Treat it as a starting point to refine, not a finished strategy.

Try this prompt in ChatGPT:

Using the questions and answers below, write a concise positioning statement that summarises what this brand does, who it serves, and what makes it distinctive.

Then, based on those insights:

  • Draft a one-paragraph brand story in clear, human language.

  • Suggest three core services this brand might offer, with indicative price ranges.

  • Outline a simple 90-day marketing focus (three priorities in plain English).

Keep everything straightforward, credible and true to the tone of the founder’s voice.

A few watch outs

  • AI will make confident guesses. Treat them as ideas to test, not truths.

  • The pricing and priorities it suggests may need adjusting for your context.

  • The real value lies in how you interpret and refine the output.

Option 2: Feedback & refinement (£195)

Send me your answers (and any AI draft you've created). I'll review everything and send you:

  • Written feedback on what's working and what needs strengthening

  • Specific recommendations for your positioning, messaging, and next steps

  • 60-minute call to discuss and refine together

This is for you if you've done the thinking but want an experienced perspective before moving forward.

Option 3: Done for you strategy
